Fresh Air Ventilation in the Salt Lake City, UT Area

Energy Recovery Ventilators

Outdoor air delivered to the indoors has never been more vital. That's why many professionals involved in the building industry, as well as building code officials, recommend — and in many cases require — that outdoor air ventilation systems be installed in new construction.
Energy costs and environmental concerns have necessitated innovative methods for delivering fresh, outdoor air that do not require large amounts of heating or cooling energy. This is simply to temper the incoming air and maintain comfort within the ventilated space. Confidently ventilate without the traditional energy penalty!

Types
There are two types of energy recovery systems:
  • Heat-recovery ventilators (HRV) – transfers only heat
  • Energy-recovery ventilators (ERV) – transfers a bit of water vapor along with the heat.
Considerations
Most recovery ventilation systems can recover about 70% to 80% of the energy in the exiting air and deliver that energy to the incoming air. ERV's are most cost-effective in climates with extreme winters or summers, and where fuel costs are high.

Simplicity is the key to a cost-effective installation; many systems will share existing ductwork. Complex systems are not only more expensive to install, but they also require more power and maintenance. Only some contractors have the technical expertise and experience to install them.
