Heating and Cooling Energy Saving Tips
1.
Set your thermostat as low as is comfortable in the winter and as
high as is comfortable in the summer.
2.
Clean
or replace filters on furnaces once a month or as needed.
3.
Clean warm-air registers, baseboard heaters, and radiators as needed;
make sure they're not blocked by furniture, carpeting, or drapes.
4.
Bleed trapped air from hot-water radiators once or twice a season;
if in doubt about how to perform this task, call a professional.
5.
Place heat-resistant radiator reflectors between exterior walls and
the radiators.
6.
Turn off kitchen, bath, and other exhaust fans within 20 minutes after
you are done cooking or bathing; when replacing exhaust fans, consider
installing high-efficiency, low-noise models.
7.
During the heating season, keep the draperies and shades on your south
facing windows open during the day to allow the sunlight to enter
your home and closed at night to reduce the chill you may feel from
cold windows.
8.
During the cooling season, keep the window coverings closed during
the day to prevent solar gain.

Long-Term Savings Tip:
Select energy-efficient products when you buy new heating and cooling
equipment. Your contractor should be able to give you energy fact
sheets for different types, models, and designs to help you compare
energy usage. For furnaces, look for high Annual Fuel Utilization
Efficiency (AFUE) ratings. The national minimum is 78% AFUE, but there
are ENERGY STAR models on the market that exceed 90% AFUE.
$
Long-term Savings Tip:
For air conditioners, look for a high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio
(SEER). The current minimum is 13 SEER for central air conditioners.
The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy lists the energy
performance of the most energy-efficient furnaces, boilers, AC units,
and heat pumps on its Web site.
A Dirty System just keeps on costing you money LOTS OF IT!
Dirty
inside coils from dust, hair, grease and pet fur just to name a few
increase energy costs greatly. Dirt buildup cannot be prevented and
must be removed. Dirty outside coils from dust and oxidization cost
extra electricity too. Dirt accumulation and oxidization, cannot be
prevented and must be removed. A dirty non maintained system costs
a minimum of 20% and more often 30% extra electricity costs, this
adds up to many thousands of dollars over the systems lifespan. A
dirty non maintained system is guaranteed to cost a minimum of $500.00
in extra repair costs over a maintained system in the first 5 years.
Extra repair costs escalate greatly with each passing year as do extra
energy costs. Add the two up and you can see it's big dollars.
Leaky Ducts Keep on Costing Big
Money
Leaky
ducts cost about 18% extra electric costs for air conditioning. PLUS
a bigger system is needed! You spend more capital money on both air
conditioning and heating equipment. Your heating bills are about 30%
higher too! BOTTOM LINE Have your ducts sealed once and enjoy the
energy and capital savings for good

Today the minimum
efficiency of heating systems generally begin around 82%. However,
furnaces can be purchased well into the 96% efficiency range. The
newer generation furnaces are more efficient due to added sensors
and limit controls.
We can install
programmable thermostats to keep your heating system efficient for
your lifestyle. You wont have to wake up early to crank up the
furnace so it will be warm in the mornings and you wont have
to remember to turn it on or off.
To keep your
heating system in peak condition, be sure you change the filter regularly.
We can also provide a preventative
maintenance agreement to help keep your heating system running
